“I can see the difference in the activities she can do and what that means to her.”
– Debra, Elani’s mother
Elani, a patient living with symptomatic obstructive HCM, and her mother, Debra, were compensated for their time. Individual results may vary.
HCM=hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Meet Elani
Elani, a graduate of a prominent fashion school, has a knack for design and a love for exploring new places. However, persistent fatigue and shortness of breath made everyday activities challenging since childhood. Simple pleasures like enjoying a day out in New York City or going to the theater with her mom, Debra, were daunting due to her symptoms. “I couldn’t manage the subways because of the stairs and walking was a challenge. When I would go somewhere, I always had to think about logistics first,” explained Elani.
The Challenge of oHCM
Even some everyday activities were challenging for Elani. “When we used to try to cook together, it was hard for her to stand for too long, especially if it was warm in the kitchen,” Debra said. With her mother’s support, Elani navigated medical appointments and doctors’ visits over the years, until finally, an answer emerged: a diagnosis of obstructive HCM. As her symptoms worsened, Elani was forced to put her passions, like travel, on hold. But hope emerged when her cardiologist prescribed CAMZYOS®.
The Difference with CAMZYOS
Since starting CAMZYOS and her symptoms improving, the world has opened up for Elani as she embraces spontaneous adventures, revels in attending live music performances, and dreams about her next trip. “Now, if my mom suggests that we see a show, I can decide to just go,” Elani shares. “To see Elani’s ability to go out and enjoy these things has been so rewarding for me as her mom,” Debra adds. Planning a dream vacation to Japan, Elani feels confident she will be able to keep up with her travel companions, which excites her, but it’s also in simple moments like taking a walk together – that weren’t always so simple – when she recognizes how much has changed.
